I would ask you, why not? If challenges excite you, flexibility doesn’t mean lack of discipline, have the eagerness to learn and get mentored, passionate to get the work done, keen in understanding the most intrinsic work in your area of interest then what are you waiting for?

If you are tired of being a small cog in a large wheel, working in a start-up is one of the best ways to flourish.

I have been working in a start-up for over two years now, and I would like to share with you what I think are the top 5 perks of working in one.

1. Learning and Growth

If you are someone who has the hunger to learn and grow organically, there is nothing that will stop you in a start-up.

The start-up culture is protected from the traditional way of promotions through seniority and nepotism [largely]. So your ambition will not be weighed against no: of grey hairs you have, but by your passion.

2. Frugality

This one is my personal favourite. In a growing start-up, the fundamental principle that everyone knows is what needs to be done, needs to be done. There will be a gazillion constraints, but you will learn to fight, adapt and evolve.

You will gradually understand that meetings can be held anywhere and the success of it is not bond to an air-conditioned, well-furnished conference room but in the strength of your presentation and clarity of the agenda.

This gives you a life lesson to be innovative always and frugal if time demands.

3. Recognition and Appreciation

Since there is an absence of complex hierarchies, the great work you do will not fade away between 100 levels of reporting and emails. Hence yours get recognized and appreciated.

Which will allow your voice to be heard by the people who matters.

4. Diversified learning

Since the teams are usually small, you will get to interact with SMEs and gain knowledge across domains. If you are someone who has a deep understanding of your field and can fluently converse with other teams about your ideas as you know their dynamics and nature of work. Do you think there is anything that can stop you from having a very successful career?

5. Get inspired

If you are someone who wants to be your boss, then the start-up soil is perfect for you. You get to learn how a company functions, the efforts that go into getting things done, prioritizing to get maximum output and more.

I hope this article could give you some directions. All the best!
